EXTRA TILT
The contest is not an actual part of the tournament But is an extracurricular affair between the Class B champions of Massachusetts and Maine The game will be played as a preliminary to the New England finals Patten although a Class C team In enrollment won Maine’s B crown with a great display of basketball in the sectional tournament and In the state playoff with Gould academy of Bethel Boston Latin rolled to its crown In a Boston Garden tussle last week Patten a team drawn from the available 27 players in the academy will be racing a team representing a school of Class A caliber Coach Willis Pharl and his men aren’t worried by such numbers They figure that the starting combination of Gill Rosslngnol Carroll Halt Lloyd Wilson Ken McCourt and Thurtson Townsend will have enough power to give the Latins the stiffest battle they’ve had this year The boys got the feeling of the Garden court today getting familiar with the springy floor and the glass backboards and they showed they hadn’t left their shooting eyes in Maine Despite the Mutt and Jeff arrangement as -far as school enrollments go — Patten with a total of 88 and the Hub institution with 1800— all boys— only five men can play at one time and with the Eagles recording an excellent record all season even game-hardened Boston sports writers are giving the kids from Maine almost an even chance of winning Many Maine hoop followers who have witnessed the Eagles in action are predicting them to stage the season’s greatest upset
